The Legendary Dewey Phillips ushered-in Rhythm and Blues to white teenagers in the segregated South. Phillips was renowned for being one of the first disk jockeys to play an Elvis Presley record. Plus he connected with the transistor generation through a turntable blend of pop and soul music. As a jive-talking hillbilly, he was perhaps the greatest DJ ever.
